Andre Matthews, Coach

Andre Matthews, born and raised in Seaford, Delaware, was a standout football and basketball player in high school. He helped lead his high school basketball team to its first championship in 1997 where he recorded 32 points and 16 rebounds as a sophomore. He had then set the state championship game record for the most field goals (13). Andre was a 1,000 point scorer his senior year in high school and was first team all state, and 1st team All mason-Dixon in football and basketball. Andre was ranked one of the top two players in Delaware in basketball and was ranked 75th in the country.

 

Andre received a full basketball scholarship at Delaware state university in 1999. He received Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the year and 1st team all rookie team. He was also a 3 time All MEAC selection as well as leading the conference in field goal percentage his freshman and sophomore years. Andre was also a 3 time Coca Cola Player of the Year recipient. He was one of three players in school history to record over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

 

Professionally, Andre had a 2 season stint in the USBL with the Oklahoma Storm in Enid Oklahoma and a brief stint with the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBDL in Roanoke, Virginia.

 

Andre currently works in the Caesar Rodney school district and was an assistant basketball coach for Seaford high school in the 2015-2016 season and for Laurel high school during the 2016-2017 season. Andre also leads his own youth program during the summer mentoring and coaching youth boys and girls ages 8-14 yrs of age. Andre has been active in his community for the past 15 plus years.
